The category of furniture we deal with on this website is that of sideboards. This is perhaps the most broad term used to describe the general category that includes all the more specific types of sideboards you will find on this site. But I wanted to write this post simply to explain that the category of furniture we deal with here is a very broad one.

As you may already know, the sideboard first appeared hundreds of years ago. Royals and the upper class of the time needed a furniture piece for their dining areas that would serve the purpose of storage while also looking very upscale. These were very materialistic times, so any piece of furniture that was to be placed in the main dining area and would be visible to everyone would have to be something special. A simple storage cabinet just would not do.

Luckily, the furniture craftsman of the time had the ability to create some amazing pieces of furniture. It was all done by hand, and a strong case can be made that the quality they put into their work was on a higher scale than what we see in modern times. The difference comes in both the material quality and the difference between making something by hand or having a machine nail it together. The proof is in the antiques we see today, which were the original pieces of that first era of sideboards so long ago.

Whether you want something that has a modern feel to it, or something more art deco and a bit funky, you will have plenty to choose from in this category of furniture. there are literally thousands of choices when it comes to sideboards. Whatever your color or style theme, there is no doubt you will find the one that is perfect for your situation. You have come to the right place when doing your research, because everything you need to know is available right here online.

When choosing your sideboard, think about what you want the piece to be. Is it something that you want to last for many years, or is it just a stand in piece that you need for a short time before moving on to something else? The answers to those questions will help you decide how much money you should spend on the piece, and also lead you in the right direction for your choice of material. Sideboards can cost anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars to many thousands of dollars. Any material used to make any other kind of furniture can be used to make sideboards. But all those materials are not created equally. Some types of wood will last for centuries, while some cannot stand up to the test of time because they are much softer. These are important things to think about when doing your research, but if you approach them in an organized manner you will ultimately make the right choice in sideboards.

One of the more popular pieces of kitchen and dining area furniture is the farmhouse table. What is a farmhouse table? This is a large, classic table that is usually made from oak or pine. Many consider this kind of table a reflection of country living, and you probably want a country or rustic theme if you are going to add a farmhouse table. Even though the general style is limited, there are plenty of different looks to choose from within the main rustic or country theme. The wood type alone can make a big difference in the look of a finished piece. In other words, an oak farmhouse table will look much different than one made from pine.

A farmhouse kitchen table can be quite large, so you need a pretty good sized kitchen area or the table will overwhelm the room. Some of these tables can seat up to 8 or 10 people, and that is quite a large table for the kitchen. These tables are generally very heavy, with large legs and a big presence in whatever room they are placed. Like sideboards, these table tend to take over the look of the room, so you want to keep that in mind when considering adding one to your home.

A farmhouse dining table is much like the kitchen version, although usually a little more formal. the dining room version tends to be even larger than the kitchen table, as it needs to seat more people. Once again, it takes a larger than average dining room to accommodate one of these tables. If the room is not large enough, the table can easily overwhelm the look of the room.

Another way these tables are used is much the same as sideboard furniture is used. The table is placed against a wall, with a hutch type of top piece on top of the main table. This arrangement can be used for all kinds of storage, from dishes to a display area for family photos and nicnacs.

A farmhouse table and chairs is an addition to either your kitchen or dining room that can become a conversation piece in and of itself. There are many examples of antique farmhouse tables that have been passed down through many generations of family members. Like sideboards, these pieces tend to stay in the same spot for many years. the result is the wear and tear is much less than on other types of furniture, so the piece can last a very long time. Of course, the quality of construction plays a big role in determining the life expectancy of any piece of furniture. if you want a piece of furniture that can truly last a lifetime, consider getting yours made by hand by a furniture craftsman. there is a reason why the antiques of today have lasted so long, and that is the quality of workmanship that went into them many years ago. By comparison, today’s mass produced versions stand almost no chance of becoming tomorrow’s antiques. keep this in mind when deciding exactly what role you want your farmhouse table to play in your home.

Due to their fine craftsmanship, mahogany sideboards are frequently the focal point of dining rooms. Most often they become family heirlooms that are passed on through the generations. Mahogany is a beautiful hard wood that has a reddish hue and when properly cared can last for hundreds of years.

The antique mahogany sideboard buffet offers more than just storage for linens and servers, or a place to display fine china and stemware, it also lends itself as a surface to rest platters and other pieces during the meal. This multipurpose furniture may have at one time been a symbol of status as they were normally only kept in the formal dining rooms of the finest homes of Europe’s elite society. Purchasing an antique mahogany sideboard may be quite expensive depending on their condition and origin. While the cost may be higher than that of a contemporary sideboard, the investment is likely to pay off in both monetary as well as sentimental value.

Antique mahogany sideboards are often found in traditional or Victorian style homes but can also be integrated into Mission style and craftsman homes. Today’s mahogany sideboard is usually more contemporary in it’s lines and often incorporates other materials such as marble, tile, glass or granite. While not as costly as the antique mahogany sideboard, genuine mahogany contemporary buffets are still quite an investment.

To find the greatest selection of mahogany sideboard furniture as well as the best pricing deals including free shipping and other discounts, start your shopping online. Often many retailers and individuals sell antique sideboards online. There are also many companies that offer custom designed buffet furniture that can be created to your specifications and distinct style preferences. Other areas of distribution are local antique shops and consignment shops for the antique sideboard and fine furniture stores for the more contemporary styles.

With the traditional role of the sideboard has it being used as a storage and food service piece of furniture, there are perhaps more options available for that role than any other. When you are looking for a dining room sideboard make sure you know what you envision doing with the piece as that will help you in narrowing down your search. The basics of dining room sideboards are pretty simple. They are a furniture type that can have any variety of internal storage, while providing an ideal food service area on their top. They can be used as a display cabinet, or a food service area. The height is generally just the right height for a buffet service.

Sideboards for dining rooms can be found in almost any furniture store that deals in dining room furniture. There are a variety of different levels of furniture stores, some deal with economical furniture while others are much higher on the price scale. Like anything else you purchase, you get what you pay for. If you purchase a sideboard at your local department store for a couple of hundred dollars, it might be made from a particle board rather than some real wood type. You will probably have to assemble it yourself, and the piece may last a few years, depending on how much it gets moved around or handled. On the other hand, if you purchase a quality piece of furniture made from real wood from a reputable furniture maker, you might very well end up with something that will be in your family for a very long time.

A dining room furniture sideboard is just another name for the same kind of furniture that we have been talking about. This furniture has developed many different names over the years, as people have found more places to use them and more roles for them to fill. Just remember that any piece of furniture in the dining area that is made to store dining area items as well as be used as a food service station is a sideboard.

The storage inside the sideboard can come in many different configurations. Some have large double doors opening to a large space that can be used for anything you want. Others are more compartmentalized and can be used for storage of small items. Another popular storage option is to have shelves inside the doors in order to divide the storage space, yet still be accessible from the main doors.

One of the types of sideboard furniture that has gained in popularity in recent years is black sideboards. This is probably due to the popularity of the modern furniture and contemporary furniture themes. A black sideboard goes well with both of those styles, so it is a logical choice when furnishing your home in that particular style. A modern black sideboard can be found in many different styles within the modern theme.

To just say you want a black sideboard is really not going far enough. Within that niche of sideboards there are many options. One option is a black lacquer sideboard. This is a really classy looking finish that goes well in the dining area, as that is usually a more formal type of room. A black sideboard buffet can be used in the dining room for a few different things. The traditional role has always been as a place to store dishes, utensils, and any other dining room items that you don’t want to keep in the kitchen. The other great feature of a sideboard is that the typical height is perfect for it to be used as a food service area. this is where the name buffet comes from.

People have been finding other uses for sideboard furniture for many years, and because of that the furniture type has picked up a few different names along the way. If a piece of this furniture is used in some other area of the home like the family room, you would not call it a buffet. So if you had a black on in the family room, you might refer to it as a black sideboard table.

Black sideboards and buffets run the gamut on price from a high of many thousands of dollars for a classic antique, down to a couple of hundred dollars for a piece you might find in your local department store. At the low end, you might be dealing with a piece of furniture that is made out of particle board rather than some type of actual solid wood. In addition to that, you might have to assemble the piece yourself. This is a case of you get what you pay for, but whatever your budget you can find a sideboard that is right for you. If you can manage to find a good middle ground in the price range, you can find a quality black sideboard that will last a long time.

One of the more unique pieces of sideboard furniture you will see is a glass sideboard. These can be very beautiful pieces, but are also more limited in the various functions they can perform. Most sideboards are made from some kind of wood material, and have various configurations of internal storage that can be used in many different functions. Glass sideboards don’t offer much in the way of hidden storage, although there is ample internal storage in multiple variations depending on the particular unit. So if you use a glass sideboard and store items internally, they are somewhat on display even though they are inside the glass doors of the sideboard. This might also be referred to as a glass display cabinet.

A glass door sideboard will almost always be used in the traditional role for sideboard furniture, which is in the dining area. In this role the glass unit can perform all the same things that any other sideboard can. From using the top of the unit as a food service buffet area to putting many small items on display behind the glass doors, these are some of the most useful of all furniture types for the dining room.

Sideboard glass doors come in a variety of sizes to fit whatever the storage sizes of a particular unit might be. Depending on the individual unit, there may be 2 large doors or several small doors, or any combination in between. The doors, like the rest of a glass sideboard, are all made of glass. Sometimes the glass is tinted, sometimes clear, sometimes it will be shades in between those extremes. As you can see, just because it is a glass sideboard does not mean there is any lack of options and choices available.

A glass top sideboard is one that might be made of wood except for the top of the unit. This an unusual unit and is not seen all that often, but they do exist. A glass front sideboard is also quite unique, and this unit, as its name implies, is simply a sideboard with a glass front while the other parts of the unit could be made from any material sideboard furniture is normally made from.

A more common version of a sideboard incorporating glass are sideboards with glass doors. These are just typical pieces of sideboard furniture, and the doors are made of glass so whatever is being stored is basically on display. Many people use this type of sideboard to show off old family photos or heirlooms in a more protected environment than just placing them on top of the unit.

Art Deco is a term used to describe a blended style that began the larger portion of it’s popularity in the 1920’s through the 1940’s. This mixture of Cubism, Art Nuevo, Constructivism, Modernism and Futurism had a popularity rebirth in the 80’s when the graphics art craze began.

Art Deco furnishings, such as the Art Deco sideboard or Art Deco buffet were created from materials like fine Ebony wood, Brazilian jacaranda, mahogany and ambyna veneers as well as maple and burle wood. Stainless steel, high gloss lacquer and aluminum were also utilized and the pieces often feature sweeping curves. One highly recognizable symbol of Art Deco style is the sunburst motif and of course, wood inlay. Also, while not a popular choice today due to animal harm, during the Art Deco period, exotic materials such as ivory, tortoiseshell, snakeskin and shagreen (dog fish skin) were very popular and can be found on many Art Deco pieces.

The Art Deco style of architecture like the Empire State Building, interior and exterior décor such as the Art Deco sideboard, and artwork – especially Pop Art, are normally characterized by their geometric shapes, ornamentation and eclectic attributes. Many Art Deco aficionados choose to furnish their homes by blending pieces from the Art Deco movement with current and modern furnishings of today. This eclectic blending is a true representation of the heart of Art Deco.

Art Deco originally emerged between the two world wars and made it’s first appearance in Paris. The glamorous, indulgent style was soon imitated around the globe. Enthusiasts of today choose décor that shares the simplistic yet intricate traits of the era when furnishing their homes. Early decadent pieces such as the Art Deco sideboard often feature dramatic, vibrant contrasts of glass, black accents, sunburst inlays, organic curves and chevrons or zig-zags. Later Art Deco sideboards are normally synonymous with the “Hollywood Hey Days” of the 1930’s. They tend to feature a more elegant and less gaudy design style and are considered the more “modern” movement of Art Deco.

Finding true Art Deco sideboards and Art Deco buffets takes time, effort and quite often, a healthy budget. Depending on their condition and detail, authentic Art Deco sideboards and buffets can range from the low to the tens of thousands of dollars. While they may at times be quite costly, the Art Deco sideboard will surely be a treasured family heirloom as well as a fabulously functional conversation piece in any home.

For the best selection in Art Deco sideboards, start your search online where a plethora of antique dealers, individual Art Deco furniture owners and consignment retailers can be found.

Many times it is the role the piece of furniture plays that determines the name by which it is called. For example, if you put a piece of this furniture in the dining area and use it as a food service and storage piece, it is rightly referred to by many people as a buffet. But if you take the same piece and use it in the family room as a television stand, a more likely name for it is a sideboard.

Kitchen buffets and sideboards are usually a little smaller than the versions you will see in main dining areas. These units serve the same function as any other piece of sideboard furniture in that it can store things like dishes and utensils while still having a useful top area that can either be a buffet service area or a display place for pictures and other small items. These kitchen versions are available in all the same colors and styles as those used in dining areas, so finding on to fit your style or the style of the room will not be an issue.

Every once in a while I will run into someone who really thinks there is a big difference between a buffet and sideboard. But as we have said, the only difference is in the way the particular piece of furniture is used rather than how it is made or what it looks like. Black buffets and sideboards are commonly used in modern or contemporary themed rooms. Again, if the piece is used in the dining area it is called a black buffet while a piece referred to as a black sideboard might also be in the dining area, or any other area.

Dining room buffets and sideboards tend to be larger, more classic pieces. These pieces of furniture tend to be the focal point of the room in which they are placed. This can be frustrating to someone who is trying to add one to an already furnished dining room. If you have seen a hand made, solid oak sideboard you know exactly what I am talking about.

When you are trying to determine which sideboard or buffets are right for you and your home, it is wise to use the power of the internet. There are many variations and options from which to choose, and the internet is the only place where they are all available in one place right at your fingertips.

If you are thinking of adding a sideboard cabinet to your home, it makes sense to take some time and plan out the look, location, and role this new piece of furniture will have in your house. You might wonder why it takes so much planning. After all, don’t you just put the sideboard in the dining room and move on to the next thing? Well you can do that, but it has become very popular to use sideboard cabinets in many other roles throughout the house.

Cabinets sideboards are routinely used in places like the living room, where they can make a great television stand if you have a large flat screen television. The added benefit of using the unit in this role is it is a great looking addition to the room, plus it offers internal storage that can be used to hide wires and cables. The layout of that storage will be different depending on the particular sideboard. If you are using the unit for a TV stand, you are better off with open storage that can hold the cable box and cd player. If you have glass doors on this unit the remote controls can be used without having to open the doors.

Cabinets and sideboards are also used in bedrooms as storage units for everything from clothing to toys, or long term storage for items that just have no other place to be stored. Again, the look of most sideboards compliments the room because this kind of furniture is very eye catching and good looking. It really does fit nicely into any room, and will usually become the visual center piece of that room.

Another reason sideboards fit nicely into any room is the large variety of colors and styles in which they are available. A black sideboard cabinet fits in nicely with many styles, such as the modern furniture style. A white sideboard cabinet would also fit this style, or the contemporary style. The traditional look of natural wood tones fits in nicely with pretty much any look you may have in your home, and the type of wood used to make the sideboard will dictate the actual color of that tone.

Prices for sideboard cabinets range from less than $200 all the way up to many thousands of dollars for some antique sideboards. How much you spend will be determined by the quality and material of the specific piece you select. If you get a particle board sideboard from a department store, it will be on the low end of the price range and will probably suite your needs fine for a few years. If you want something that will eventually become a family heirloom or antique, it will obviously be much more expensive and made from solid wood such as oak or mahogany.

Contemporary sideboards are available in pretty much all the same material types, shapes, sizes, and styles that any other kind of furniture comes in. When you hear the term contemporary, thing along the lines of modern furniture. This means sleek lines, lower profiles, curved edges rather than corners and angles. These are not hard and fast rules, but in general those are the characteristics of furniture in the contemporary style.

If you are thinking about adding a contemporary sideboard to your home, it is important to know what it is you want the piece of furniture to do before you go about purchasing it. Many people use sideboard furniture for roles other than that which it was originally designed. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but it makes sense to know what the role of your sideboard will be in order to be able to pick out the one that can fit that role perfectly.

If you want a contemporary sideboard buffet for your dining room, it usually makes sense to start with that piece and build the rest of the room around it. If you have had a sideboard before you know that it tends to be a main focal point no matter where you place it or what role you use it for. While it is certainly possible to add a sideboard buffet to a dining area that is already finished, it tends to be a challenge.

Contemporary sideboards and buffets range in price from a couple of hundred dollars or less, all the way up to many thousands of dollars for some antique sideboards. Some sideboards have been in operation for several hundred years and look and function the same as when they were new. Some of these are extremely beautiful, and are a testament to the skill of the furniture craftsmen of that era. If an antique is out of your price range there are plenty of alternatives. You can find very reasonably priced sideboards at places like Ikea. These are low priced, and usually made of some kind of particle board topped with a decorative layer of pine or cedar to give it the desired finished look. Remember, you get what you pay for. There are huge differences between a hand made solid oak sideboard and one made from particle board. There is no right or wrong, but it is important to remember the differences.
